Something I wonder about: Is the time-traveling toaster sketch from Treehouse of Horror 5 canonical? One of the jokes in Gump Roast implies that it is in continuity. I like to think that it is, because that supports my personal theory that Flanders secretly being the Devil is also canonical.

Marge and Homer were walking together and eating ice cream; then Homer extended a big lizard-like tongue, similar to the ones exhibited by his family in the timeline he deemed acceptable, and ate some of Marge’s ice cream.

But in the Toaster Sketch, he didn’t have the tongue, they did. Methinks you may be reading more into it than the writers intended.
