I do like that the leprechaun actually showed up at the end, if it didn’t this joke would’ve had no payoff and would’ve been weird. Say what you will about Season 9, they did know how to craft actual jokes back then.
They also made sure to have it be a figment of Ralph’s imagination and not have an real leprechaun show up, which would sadly happen in later ZS episodes.
This is one of them awkward jokes still played out funny. Kind of “Ha-ha, this kid has early pyromania” funny.
Eh, I’ve got mixed feelings on this episode. It’s funny in parts for sure (it being in Season 9), but I consider this the start of what I like to call “Zombie Ralph”, where he’s just flat-out retarded and doesn’t even show any hints of intelligence. Sure, this kind of started back in “Lisa’s Rival” where he just spouts off nonsensical one-liners, but I consider this the episode where he devolved into that state full fucking force and never went back.
Quite a journey, eh? From the oddly-gruff but on-the-dot voice in “Lisa’s Pony” to the dumb-witted but kindhearted & earnest Ralph of “I Love Lisa” all the way to the dead-brained Ralph of “This Little Wiggy”. Man, what a tragic fall.
