So did Homer know Sideshow Bob was under the car or did he blithely think that Maggie was the third voice? That part always confused me.

Also, for anyone who asked why The Simpsons’ car tires didn’t get punctured during their drive through the cactus field, some cacti’s spikes aren’t sharp enough to blow out a tire, though that doesn’t explain how they could have avoided it.

I’m sure he thought that Maggie was talking. This is Homer J. Simpson, after all.
Also, about the cactuses/cactii thing… It’s just a fucking cartoon.

Fair enough, but that website I don’t like (snpp.com) mentioned the cactus thing. It had to be said here because, as tedious as this blog can be at times, the writers are obviously more level-headed than anyone at snpp.com.

And the award for most pointless deconstruction of a joke ever goes to… Babel DeCarta!

There’s no shame in bending reality for a joke, after all one of the advantages of animation is that you can create situations that wouldn’t be plausible in real life.

Now, the problem comes when you use this scenario to move the plot forward, because the show is supposed to be (mostly) realistic. If driving through the cactus patch was part of the main plot, then it would be wrong and stupid.

Family Guy overexploited the same trope later on. They had Peter nearly or completely killed in their side gags, but then he was fine in the main plot. That’s just how cartoons tell their jokes.

Yup to you fellas. I mean, in the same episode Sideshow Bob has his head -crushed- by a parade of elephants and is fine.
