   I love that this, as a reference, only gets better the further away from Operation Desert Storm we get. It was funny when it was only a few years ago, when the episode was aired, but it’s even better now that we’re 20+ years on. So long as people know what Operation Desert Storm is/was, it works, and its a ubiquitous enough thing that people will probably have a sense of what it is for the lifetime of the show. Maybe not post-apocalypse, like in that play, but for now at least.

     It was just (yet another) military incursion by the US on a land the US weren’t welcomed at, for the reasons the US thought were justifiable. Just like with ISIS today.

     But the satire is always a way to correct oneself. Therefore you Americans aren’t all that bad, I guess. Shame on your president, though, shame shame shame.

       I was in no way trying to justify (or denigrate) the military action itself, merely pointing out that this is topical satire done well, in so much as it’s a large cultural and historical touchstone that will be long remembered and the joke requires no direct knowledge or specific information, only the acknowledgement that it happened long enough ago for surplus mayonnaise to be a bad idea.

       Also, I’m not American. But there’s no way you could have known from my previous comment.

         Okay, maybe I didn’t mean all this, but every time a reference to some military incursion is made, it ticks me off. I mean, it’s good that someone has the courage to ridicule it in some way (like they’d do with every important historic event, like Woodstock, or that human wall of 1986), but you touch the military and my reaction gets opposite. Dunno, maybe it’s just me.

         Like FG made that episode where Stewie and Brian get into the army and then are sent off to Iraq. But honestly, besides a couple of gay jokes and stupid US army policies, I didn’t find the rest funny. “So I blow up now, and then I come back and we party?” wasn’t funny. You’re laughing off of cruelty of your own military and politicians, c’mon. If the policies were being rightly chosen from the beginning, there would’ve been no Islamist terrorism right now.

         Anyway, it’s definitely just me.

           that human wall thing of 1986, was that Hands Across America, because they kinda made fun of it when Homer was reminiscing about the good times he had with his sofa.

           From wikipedia article on HAA:

       Many people oppose U.S. Imperialism even Russian author and Gulag survivor A.S. but during times of peace our military functions much like The Peace Corps, Boy Scouts and Guardian Angela, maybe also a security, humanitarian force as well. We have helped other nations out during times of natural disasters. My friend Tara on facebook posted about this yesterday. My Russian Jewish American friend Sam also thinks the same way, like you Stan and a few others as well I know. We most likely, on a side note, did not create ISIS but even if we did, acting as a global police force, it is our job to put them down.

       On another note the wars in the Middle East were mostly pointless like Vietnam and those nations, some will not accept Western Democracy, only strict Islamic Theocracy.

       p.s. Sam said Putin is 10x worse then Obama and GWB combined. I have to agree, esp. due to being former KGB.

         Huh? Did I say anything about Russia at all? The story with Russia is another page in history.
         Right now I was talking about the unjustified aggression coming from the US. Whether it’s “peace” or not, the decision of one man (turn it either way you want, a collective agreement cannot representing anything besides a consensus of several minds lit by the idea of one single person, whomever that is) is faulty to think that the US can just up and interfere in foreign affairs. Excuse me, but I just don’t buy this.

         US economy has been on the decline since the early 2000s, and as any economist would probably tell you, a recession is better than any “slow” decline because a slow decline means that the grip is being slowly but steadily lost on many financial markets. And no, badmouthing Putin, or Assad, or Ibrahim (or whatever that individual’s name is) won’t help it. With the republicans reoccupying the majority of the seats after the last elections, I honestly don’t believe anymore that the situation could be rolled back to prior to US intervention in Syria in 2013. And the stupidest thing today would be to start a fight against the ISIS, whose primary objective is clearly to annihilate the Jewish presence in the Levant. The situation is very close to a checkmate considering that Israeli Jews will be trying to gain political leverage in the US with the help from American Jews, and I’m sure who needs this anymore.

         Yes, it’s sad that people will die in Israel. Every genocide is a waste of humanity. But if the US doesn’t let go now, they will be sawing their own arms off for reasons none other than end up being accused of aggression in the Arab world.

           That’s some great points. I always think of the Ukraine and Russia occupying Berlin when I talk politics like I did yesterday I.e. Russian agression (though Hitler did attack Russia during Operation Barbarossa during WWII) and yeah GWB did destroy Bill Clinton’s economy

           Regarding Israel some of my secular Jewish friends such as Sam do not support Israel, only the Palestinians and have told in posts how the U.S. should stop giving Egypt and Israel money.

           ISIS kills not just Jews but also other Muslims, Christians and enslaves children, women and beheads rebels like Kurds and Westerners as well. Very evil guys, very sad how it all came about.

             The journalist beheadings are commonly known to be a hoax. There can’t be that little blood on the body, and the cut can’t be that perfect (it’s usually very jagged). Plus, Muslims never behead as punishment, they usually either stone or shoot through the backside, pain is of little relevance to a Muslim (because they believe that the suffering awaits the infidels anyway).

             Regarding Russia, I don’t know once again why you keep bringing it up. If you’re somehow offended by my vision of the US, bringing up Canada in retrospect would be more appropriate =) So that you know, I’m not a supporter of Putin or his regime, but I strongly think both Europe and the US should mind their own business is this situation, because Ukraine has instigated an inner conflict from which they still can’t manage to get out. And it surely has nothing to do with Hitler whose genocide of the Jewish nation has been a credo since 1933 at least, long before he invaded Czechoslovakia.

             But of course we’re each entitled to own opinion, the problem is these opinions often clash and politicians make money of the whole thing =) And every time a politician says s/he cares about the will of their people – they’re lying, because they only care about the will of the “majority”, if you know what I mean.

   On another note, hope.everyone had a gooD Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, etc.

   “Soldiers are not in a position to make someone a victim. They do what they are told. And its not just OUR soldiers, because they happen to represent stars and stripes. Soldiers everywhere, in every country, when a part of a disciplined army, do what they are told. Its their job, its their function, no military could exist without this unquestioning obedience.

   And there is nothing inherently wrong with enticing people to join their ranks. Soldiers as a profession represent, ideally the last line of defense between existence and nonexistence of entire countries, of civilization itself.

   But on this Veterans day, I chose to point a finger at those who ARE to blame for the victims, those who represent barbarism instead of civilized behavior. Yes, its the people who give the orders, and those who VOTE for those people. in 2012, it was clear to Liberals that Obama is a warmonger. How the hell did he get reelected?

   So yes, Id like to remember the victims. But they are not the soldiers’ victims – they are OURS. And its a shit position to be a part of the mass who sends soldiers to fight unjust wars, then blame them for choices they never got to make. On the flip side, its a shit position to say you support the troops and send them to fight offensive wars against people who have no ability to attack us, in places where we do not belong.      Something else to point out is that it’s also bullshit that the masses are all “rah-rah” for the actual fighting troops do, but to not provide or support proper health support and living services the troops when they return home. I find that so many people in this country–the U.S.–think that supporting veterans is providing platitudes and acting as if those in the military are godly, but don’t seem to give a shit that these people often suffer from mental health problems, physical aliments, and poverty when they return home.

     I’m against war period, and I’m sick and tired of the mentality that the U.S. should be shoving its boots up the asses of anyone the media and government depicts as boogie-men…
