This is one of those episodes that, as you might say, I enjoyed more the second time around once I got past the not-so-good story. I’m really not a fan of Homer’s constant lying-about-the-gun deal and that ending speech with Homer giving the gun back to Marge really bordered on “preachy” in that “GI Joe” style, buuut… I do love the “send-up to football”, uh I mean, “SOCCER'” opening as well as the riot afterwards (those kids cow-tipping the dog gets me), and I always liked the SL-E–AZY MOTEL sign gag even as a kid (plus all the stuff inside now). Just gotta ignore the poorly-executed plot to enjoy these, though…

But all better than “Bart Star”, in my opinion, which is marred IMO by out-of-character Flanders (guess they thought it’d be waaaackyeeee for him not to be), that gateway-joke with Lisa being morally-opposed-to-everything as an attention-grabber (“gateway” as in paving the way for trend-junkie status), and that shitty ending (so Bart really is gonna go to jail for the rest of his years?) that I hated even as a kid.
