Quote of the Day

The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace7

“Homer, you can’t punish the children just because you can’t come up with an idea.” – Marge Simpson
“I don’t see why not.  They’re my kids, I own them. . . . Okay, we own them.” – Homer Simpson

This episode isn’t perfect by any means, but can you imagine how much worse it’d be if it was made today? All of Homer’s inventions would probably be flawless and Homer would be an instant billionaire, but not before he gets endlessly hurt and in pain along the way! But then they’d decide to cram some sentimentality in at the end with Li’l Lisa scolding Homer for his greed and then he feels sad and gives up all his wealth and patents to Edison’s heirs and everything’s back to status quo status, the end.

Also they’d probably have some pointless celebrity doing the voice of Thomas Edison while he gets run over.

Yeah. Mike Scully’s episodes may not have been as great as the older ones (and I am including the ones Scully wrote before he became showrunner, like the one where Lisa joins the pee-wee hockey team or the one Charlie Sweatpants hates because it’s too sappy [Marge Be Not Proud]. While I do agree that it’s a bit too heavy and depressing since I too fear the day I do something so bad that no one will love me anymore, it did have some funny moments, like “Thrillho,” Bart getting thrown out of Milhouse’s house twice, the video game mascots urging Bart to steal, Homer thinking Allen Sherman’s tape is a message from Lisa about being in Camp Grenada, Homer trashing the Police Academy movies in his rant about how stealing is wrong, and a part that gets cut in syndication where Homer buys nothing but eggnog and tells Marge that he did it because after 30 days, the government takes it away), but they make the Al Jean episodes look good.
