There's No Disgrace Like Home16

“Alright, time for a family meeting.” – Homer Simpson
“Why can’t we have a meeting when you’re watching TV?” – Lisa Simpson

Real Homer we knew from the 1990s would have never said something like this. He’s not leader of his family enough. It’s more like “D’oh!”. Marge, on the other hand, totally would.
Homer is a doofus… at least was before he became a pile of talking shit.

Well this was the original “Walter Matthau” Homer that took being a dad and husband more seriously. Besides, he’s still the butt of the joke as Lisa so cleverly points out.

By Mike Reiss’ own admission on the DVD commentary, everything about this episode’s story is wrong. But it was only episode four and nobody really knew what they were doing yet, so I can cut ’em some slack. Plus it gave us the Simpsons in shock therapy, so there’s that.

Well, certainly it had other characters acting unlike themselves (hell, even their bits of voicing were different). Some of this slightly followed into Season 2, and I never meant to speculate on Homer alone.
