Quote of the Day

My Sister, My Sitter13

“Hey, Dad, how come you’re wearing a tuxedo?” – Bart Simpson
“Going to that fancy waterfront party tomorrow.” – Homer Simpson
“Why are you wearing it now?” – Bart Simpson
“It’s like a rent-a-car, son.  You get all the mileage you can, then ball it up and cram it through the mail slot.” – Homer Simpson

Not a perfect episode by any means, but I always like how Bart is running and kicking the air and how he stops mid-kick in the air when he notices Homer.

I also like the scary allusion that Homer actually applied his advice to a rent-a-car (though it could be considered sorta Jerkass-y)…

I wouldn’t call that Jerkass-y. Homer’s always been a bit of a mooch, often abusing free samples/items or things he might think no one cares about (and are thus free, like boxes of pens or copper wire) or getting the most mileage out of rentals with little care afterwards.

Compare that to when he buys something, as he tends to protect it as much as his children, or, in the case of teleporters in THOH VII episode, moreso (Chasing Bart around with an axe yelling stuff like “That cost me 35 cents!”) as it’s his property.

(OK, that’s an extreme, later-season Halloween example, but it still drives home the point that money wasn’t a very abundant commodity in the Simpson home and Homer was very aware of that.)

      Highly insightful observation, sir.
+1 Internets to you for today ;)

It’s not about money, it’s about him being an arrogant kid himself deep inside. Those greedy little shits. He goes and eats like a fucking pig, like no sane adult ever would. Then he whines about something and it sounds like “But Maaaaarge”… Like, shut up, you’re 36, right? Even Bart is more grown-up at these things.
And no, you can’t find this adorable. I’m sorry. Ralph Wiggum’s dumbness is sometimes adorable, this just isn’t.
