“Flag fearing”. I always found that pretty funny. The entire scene is gold, really. Showed it to a friend last night and had a good laugh.
Had a brief Twitter conversation with an old commenter about whether it’s “flag fearing” or “flag feeling”. I like feeling because I think it’s sillier and it gets at that weird flag fetish that a lot of people seem to have, like it’s a precious child’s blanket or something. But fearing works too.
It is sillier, but it doesn’t make any sense. I think if they were going for that, they would have used “flag loving” or “flag waving”. But in the interest of accuracy and fairness, being a nerd and all, I just went and checked the episode I recorded and put the captioning on, which did indeed say “flag-fearing”. I then got out my season 7 DVDs and put the English subtitles on, but they said “flag-feeding”… which… makes even less sense and is probably woefully inaccurate.
I think I’m still going to go with “flag-fearing”, because it’s much like “God-fearing” and makes more sense in context, but since the official DVD subtitles are either very screwed up or the line is much weirder than either of us thought, I guess it’s hard to say which one is 100% correct unless someone gets a hold of an official script.
Less careful observers would consider this a ‘terrorist’ image.
Ah for the days before 2001.
Random question…have you seen Storybook Glen in Aberdeen, Scotland?
This is how they think the Simpsons (or Bart and Lisa) look like: http://i.imgur.com/lX7lMZf.jpg
That’s enjoyably horrifying
