It’s crazy how they essentially predicted their own downfall, especially between this, “The Last Temptation of Krust”, and “Behind the Laughter”.

And Roy is a better character than any of the newer ones they’ve attempted to cram in or overuse from what I’ve heard. The Crazy Cat Lady was good for that one gag, bringing her back was utterly stupid. A random “triplet” for Sherri and Terri might’ve worked for a Halloween episode, but nothing else. And Julio sounds like the dull, walking stereotype they wish they could’ve made Smithers if he weren’t already such an established character. In fact, King of the Hill did an excellent subversion on this cliche by making Peggy think her flamboyant hairdresser was gay, only to find out he was married (to a woman) and had a baby. Zombie Simpsons no longer skewers the expectations of its audience, but rather spoon-feeds it to them.

ZS doesn’t understand that recognition isn’t enough to make a person enjoy a gag. They have Crazy Cat Lady show up and we’re supposed to laugh because hey, we recognize her, even if she isn’t doing anything funny. This is also why I hate most of their cultural references. I love Ghibli films, but throwing a bunch of Ghibli references into a scene isn’t funny or enjoyable in and of itself.
