Whats with all the gun quotes? Coincidence?
Just one of the hundreds of radical right-wing messages inserted into every QotD by Charlie Sweatpants.
In seriousness I think it’s because of the Nazis who believe that today the antifa groups are gonna rise against tbe government.
Sometimes a QotD is just a QotD.
I like how the “Ancient Farmer” looks like a slightly skinnier, cantankerous version of Santa Claus.
Completely unintentional. I’m back out in the desert and so am on-line like 30 minutes a day. I post the quote and move on, though having just looked at the front page, it does seem a little strange, so . . . what BGM said.
>I’m back out in the desert and so am on-line like 30 minutes a day
Jebus, that sucks. I hope you’re doing well.
Really? I always thought QOTD was semi-automated, like you spent a day selecting quotes and pics, then set them to run daily, changing them if the news dictates.
Running a blog is obviously more time consuming than I think. Hope all’s well, Charlie.
I’m good. This is round 2 of helping a friend of mine build his off-the-grid solar powered rain water house, so it’s quite fun. But we’re way out here where cell service is spotty.
I sometimes have a 3-4 day buffer on QotDs, but it’s easy to slack off on that. Most time consuming thing these days is checking to see that the quote hasn’t been used before.
Of any episode of the Simpsons, my vote for the most butchered in syndication goes to this one. So many great scenes are axed. We miss out on Maggie’s wedding, Homer ruining Marge’s get-together with a skunk wearing a “No fat chicks” shirt, Lionel Hutz and the kids watching LA Law with Hutz commenting “Oh, sure, like lawyers work in big skyscrapers and have secretaries. Look at him! He’s wearing a belt. That’s Hollywood for ya.” And we miss the scene where Marge and Ruth go to the underground club where Otto tries a smart drink and Marge dances with a shirtless paint-blotched Mayor Quimby who’s there with his nephew. It’s a shame that there are people out there who have probably seen episodes like this multiple times and have missed so much great material without knowing it.
One time at work the song “Two Tickets to Paradise” was playing and I was telling my co-worker how the song always reminds me of the scene in “Homer Loves Flanders” where Homer starts to sing along. He said he didn’t remember that even though he had seen the episode recently and yup, it turned out that scene was axed too.
In the audio commentary for “Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie”, around the scene where Maggie drives the car, they start talking about syndication cuts. Jean says that he never watch the syndication reruns because they cuy too much or scenes that aren’t irrelevant, he uses the first commercial break of “When Flanders Failed” as an example, and he says that when Scully ran the show he speeded up the show and tried to make the episodes as tightly aa possible to prevent cuts. I think he was being honest about Scully.
To me, the worst syndication cut can be found on “Lisa the Beauty Queen” (season four episode where Lisa is upset over her looks and Homer puts her in a child pageant that turns out to be a cover for Laramie cigarettes advertising to children), where they cut the part where Otto speeds up the school carnival ride and one of the cars crashes into the school (and then Otto runs off to Mexico while an angry mob goes after him). Without it, there’s no explanation as to why there’s a smoking hole in the side of the school. It unnerved me every time I saw it until I learned about the part that got cut on the old snpp.com website.
Those kind of cuts really suck. In “Bart After Dark” there’s a scene where Mayor Quimby tells the town that building a supertrain to Aruba is unfeasible and he take off his sunglasses and has a tan. That’s cut but then he still has the tan with no explanation. And in “Rosebud” there’s a scene where Homer tries to get Maggie to trade Bobo for a box but he gets too much enjoyment out of the box himself to make the trade. That gets cut but then in a later scene Homer gleefully puts the box on his head just out of the blue.
Many episodes, especially from the first five seasons, are heavily cut but not time compressed (where it’s shown at a slightly faster speed). I don’t know why they can’t just compress the whole show to fit the allotted time and only cut things like the extended opening and Sideshow Bob stepping on the rakes.
