Ugh, I think this is one of the first times they made a “it’s funny because it’s deliberately bad!” B Plot and I couldn’t stand the stupidity of it all, even though I kind of liked the rest of the episode at the time. Then, of course, as they started making more “wacky adventures” for Homer and Bart to be involved in, they kept churning out more of these for Marge and Lisa, like they couldn’t think of anything better for them to do, but thought acting like the plots were “ironically bad” would cover it up.
Not the greatest quote to wish John Swartzwelder a happy birthday with.
